A beaver swimming in the Greifensee. These cute, hardworking animals are mostly active at twilight and at night, which makes them difficult to photograph with my current gear. I was fortunate enough to capture this one as it swam toward the reflection of the setting sun.

A great crested grebe carrying a large stick, presumably for its nest. I find it fascinating how it held the stick parallel to its body, perhaps to make it easier to weave into the nest. Of course, it also made for a great photo.

Posing after a ride from Zurich to Rapperswil-Jona. The muddy shoes come courtesy of a stop to photograph grey heron nests and, unexpectedly, wild deer.

Staring straight into the lens, this great crested grebe catches the midday sun across its face, bringing out the red of its eye, the white of its cheeks, and its chestnut crest against the deep blue water.
